HIGH: Denial of Service in BigInteger.modInverse()

A Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability exists due to an infinite loop in the BigInteger.modInverse() function (inherited from the bundled jsbn library). When modInverse() is called with a zero value as input, the internal Extended Euclidean Algorithm enters an unreachable exit condition, causing the process to hang indefinitely and consume 100% CPU.

RSASSA PKCS#1 v1.5 signature verification accepts forged signatures for low public exponent keys (e=3). Attackers can forge signatures by stuffing "garbage" bytes within the ASN.1 structure in order to construct a signature that passes verification, enabling Bleichenbacher style forgery. This issue is similar to CVE-2022-24771, but adds bytes in an addition field within the ASN.1 structure, rather than outside of it.

Additionally, forge does not validate that signatures include a minimum of 8 bytes of padding as defined by the specification, providing attackers additional space to construct Bleichenbacher forgeries.

This class of signature malleability has been exploited in practice to bypass authentication and authorization logic (see CVE-2026-25793, CVE-2022-35961). The changes here are really only patches, but I'm releasing this as a minor version to note a small change to the documentation of parseDocument() and parseAllDocuments(): I've removed the claim that they'll "never throw".

It remains the case that practically all non-malicious inputs will be handled without emitting an error, but there is a decent chance that code paths remain where e.g. a RangeError due to call stack exhaustion can be triggered by malicious inputs. Up to now, I've considered these as security vulnerabilities, and in fact it's the only category of error for which yaml CVEs have been issued so far.

Starting from this release, I'll be considering such errors as bugs, but not vulnerabilities. I do welcome people and/or LLMs looking for them, but please report them as normal issues rather than suspected security vulnerabilities. @types/uuid is stale alongside uuid v14

uuid has shipped its own TypeScript declarations since v9, so @types/uuid@^8.3.4 (written for uuid v8's API) is now unused. TypeScript will silently prefer uuid's own bundled types, but keeping this devDependency adds confusion about which type definitions are in effect. Consider removing @types/uuid from devDependencies.

uuid jumped 5 major versions — Node.js 18 support is dropped

uuid v14 requires Node.js 20+ (crypto must be globally defined), uuid v12 removed CommonJS support, and uuid v13 switched to browser exports as the default. If the production or CI environment runs Node.js 18, uuid v14 will fail at runtime because globalThis.crypto is not available in Node.js 18. The Jest config in ui-core excludes all node_modules except antlr4ng from transformation, so the ESM-only bundle (CJS was removed in v12) could also break tests in FilterDropdown.test.tsx, which imports FilterDropdown.tsx → uuid. Verifying the minimum Node.js version used in CI and deployment before merging is strongly recommended.
